The Bodhran (pronounced bow-ron), is one of only three indigenous musical instruments to Ireland (the others being the harp and Uillean pipes) and still largely crafted by hand (if you want a good one).
In this fascinating workshop you will get an insight into how they are made and learn the rhythms of traditional Irish music along with a history of how this simple drum went from keeping cadence for pipers and warriors as a Celtic war drum to the as the subtle accompaniment of traditional Irish music.
You will learn the difference between Jigs and Reels, and discover what a hornpipe, polka and slip-jig are. Learn how to affect the tone, and different uses of a beater, of which there are many
Unlike its big brother Irish Beats, the bodhran workshop concentrates solely on Ireland’s native drum, paying homage to its musical range and simplicity.
